On the way in, we noticed a temple alongside the tracks near Okachimachi station. We figured, hey its fairly close, we should check it out on the way back. So we got off at Okachimachi, and proceeded to not find the temple, but instead get lost in the street bazaar known as Ameyoko.
I didn’t realize it at the time though, that we were there. You see, Ameyoko was on the list for tomorrow after we got through with Ueno Park. Anyway…
We wandered around there for a while. Really it was not at all what I was expecting. A lot of clothing, shoes, and the like, which you could buy pretty much anyplace for about the same price. I did pick up a bag of green tea for ¥500, which was nice. Getting hungry, we stopped to split a Kebab from one of the numerous middle eastern food stands. It was alright. Edible anyway.
This little sojourn brought us back to the station, where we could see the temple we had sought from the platform, taunting us. Ah well, we would stop back here tomorrow, just for fun. Our feet were reminding us of the previous day’s activities by this time, and we headed back to the hotel, to figure out where to eat dinner.
After a much needed break at home base, I had one thing on my mind. Okonomiyaki. Online I found a place relatively closeby. Well, on the other side of Shinjuku station back down in the Subnade! Figures. So we headed back out again.
Let me tell you one thing. Friday night surrounding Shinjuku station is about 100x busier than during the week. The people, oh, the people. And it was even busier when we left the Subnade!
But back to dinner, and Okonomiyaki. Basically its cabbage and stuff cooked up in flour into a pancake like shape, and you eat it. Yeah, and it was good. The place was called Botejyu. Yeah it was another chain. I know, I know. Lucky for us the Subnade provided a break from the people above. It was really quiet down there.
Belly full of seafood mix okonomiyaki and Asahi, it was back to the hotel for another night of recovery. Tomorrow would be the busiest day yet.
