Day 8

Odawara Castle

100_2523Just to the south of Odawara station is Odawara Castle, a reconstruction of an Edo-style castle.  I’d say its about a 10-15 minute walk, depending on how tired you are, and given the size of the station.  Admission is ¥400 for adults, which gets you a tour of the museum inside, and up to the top floor and the outside observation deck.

100_2539The museum inside is marginally interesting.  We honestly didn’t pay much attention.  We were tired, it was brutally hot inside the castle, and we were getting really bummed about climbing any more stairs.  We finally reached the top and got a look out over the city, and the breeze was actually blowing up top.  Relief!

The castle park wasn’t busy at all, and neither were the monkeys kept in a fairly small cage there.  I guess they were trying to rest in the July heat as well.

We made our way back to the station, past a guy who was trying to walk his cat on a leash.  Lets just say that wasn’t going so well.

100_2540We got our Romance Car tickets bumped up to the next earliest train.  You can go earlier, but you can’t go later if you miss it.  That’s just how it works.

100_2538After the relaxing ride on the somewhat nicer train than the one we left on (save for the squeaking!) we got cleaned up, and headed back to Himawari Sushi.  We liked the place, and we didn’t feel like hunting for any new places.

This was our last night in Tokyo, and I’d totally dropped the ball on arranging to have our luggage sent ahead to the airport via takkyubin.  Which meant we’d be dragging it with us all the way to Enoshima Island.  We packed up and crashed for the evening.  We would need our rest.
